How to Watch all the Marvel Superhero Movies in the Correct Order

There has been many speculation as to how to watch all the Marvel superhero movies. Whether to watch the movies in regard to the year they released in theaters, or the year in which the plot of the movies is based in. In order to better understand and comprehend the stories and action in the films, this guide provides and follows the chronological order of all the Marvel movies in regard to the year(s) in which each movie took place in. 1.Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) Set in 1942-1943 

Fun Fact: The actual first Captain America comic book appears in a scene in the movie.

2. Captain Marvel (2019) Set in 1995

Fun Fact: In the comic book, Captain Marvel was fired from The Daily Bugle, the same newspaper organization that Peter Parker worked for.

3. Iron Man (2008) Set in 2008

Fun Fact: Tom Cruise was considered for the role for Tony Stark, but the role was eventually awarded to Robert Downey Jr. Colin Farrel and Nicolas Cage were also considered for the role.

4. Iron Man 2 (2010) Set in 2011

Fun Fact: Tony Stark calls his suitcase armor “the football”, a clear cut reference to the real-life briefcase with the nuclear launch codes that accompany the U.S. President.

5. The Incredible Hulk (2008) Set in 2011

Fun Fact: The film’s antagonist, Abomination (played by Tim Roth) was originally supposed to return in Avengers Age of Ultron (2015) but was cut and did not appear in the film.

Fun Fact: Stan Lee, the creator of Marvels comics, claimed he always wanted to play the part of “Odin”, but nonetheless was pleased with Anthony Hopkins’ performance.

7. Marvel’s The Avengers (2012) Set in 2012

8. Iron Man 3 (2013) Set in 2012

Fun Fact: Most of the dialogue was improvised by the actors of the film, rather than just simply reading straight off the script.

9. Thor: The Dark World (2013) Set in 2013

Fun Fact: Rather than relying on the wig he used in the previous Thor film, Chris Hemsworth grew his hair out to have a more authentic appearance in this sequel.

10. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) Set in 2014

Fun Fact: The title of The Winter Soldier wasn’t in the original full title of the film because there was fear it gave away too much info about what the movie was going to be about.

11. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) Set in 2014

Fun Fact: The original Guardians in the Marvel comic book were based in the 31st century. However, the film was set in the present day in order to have the Guardians become Avengers.

12. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) Set in 2014

Fun Fact: The visual effects artists of the film say that Ego’s planet contains 1 trillion polygons. When this film was released in 2017, it was considered to be one of the largest visual effects ever made.

13. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) Set in 2015

Fun Fact: An Avengers Tower set was built to film all the different scenes and settings for the film. It was the largest tower/building ever built for any Marvel movie.

14. Ant-Man (2015) Set in 2015

Fun Fact: Hank Pyn, aka Ant-Man, got his superpowers from his own pain and tragedy. Unlike traditional superheroes, who got their superpowers supernaturally or from an accident, Ant-Man found his superpowers within his own self after the tragic murder of his wife. After that traumatic event, he set out on a mission to help anyone in need.

15. Captain America: Civil War (2016) Set in 2016

Fun Fact: The film coincides with the 75th anniversary of the original Captain America comic book. It also coincides with the 10th anniversary of the original Civil War comic book.

16. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) Set in 2016

Fun Fact: Spider-man never actually physically punches any of his enemies. Rather he uses his webs for combat and even kicks them as well.

22. Avengers: Endgame (2019) Set in 2018-2013

Fun fact: A total estimate of $356 million was reported for the budget of the film, including over $200 million on the marketing campaign alone. It is considered one of the most expensive films that’s ever been made.

23. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) Set in 2024

Fun Fact: In the beginning of the film, there was a heartfelt tribute for Tony Stark after he died in Avengers: Endgame. A short little tribute video was shown to Peter Parker’s high school in memory of the late Iron Man.
